Summary
The HIPAA Privacy Rules have not changed since they became enforceable April 14, 2003. Two years later, fundraising compliance with the HIPAA Rules ranges from not-at-all to complete over restriction of best practices. Many development offices remain confused. This session will focus on understanding what the Privacy Rules actually say about fundraising, versus those gray areas that require interpretation, extrapolation and policy development based on compliance risk tolerance.

Learning Objectives

  1. Understand what the HIPAA rules really say about fundraising.
  2. Identify potential non-compliant and/or overly-restricted fundraising practices.
  3. Explore options for physician involvement in fundraising.

Who should attend?
Middle and Senior level Development professionals and organizations who wish to gain a better understanding of what is permitted under the HIPAA Privacy Rules.

Participation in a seminar qualifies for 1.5 CFRE continuing education points.
